Tens of thousands of people visit Houston hospital emergency rooms every month. These visits can be extremely stressful for many reasons. The usual long waiting times only cause or add to the extreme stress of an emergency. As a patient, you have already decided that your situation is an emergency and you need immediate help. The last thing you want is to have to sit in an emergency room for hours on end at close quarters with complete strangers. This does not happen at EliteCare.
At EliteCare Emergency Center, Houston’s 24 hour Emergency Care Center, our goal is to have you in one of our seven (7) emergency rooms being seen by an experienced emergency physician within 15 minutes of your arrival. We recognize the fact that you view your situation as an emergency - we will treat it as such too!
Below is a list of SOME of the reasons people visit Houston emergency rooms – keep in mind – this is not a complete list, just suggested reasons why you might NEED to an emergency room:
- Bladder Dysfunction - including failure to produce urine
- Bleeding - persistent bleeding or bleeding other than minor wounds
- Changes in vision or eye pain
- Chest pain for any reason
- Dizziness
- Extremity Dysfunction
- Falls - especially with older individuals
- Fast or irregular heartbeats
- Fever above 100.8 while on antibiotics
- Fever in children age 3 months or younger
- Foreign bodies in wounds or body cavities
- Headache with vomiting, fever or neck stiffness/pain
- Heart attack symptoms lasting more than two minutes
- pressure or fullness or squeezing in the center of the chest
- tightness, burning or aching under breastbone
- High Blood Pressure - if uncontrolled and above 170/100
- Injuries - including serious wounds, broken bones, dislocations, tears, etc.
- Lack of fluid intake or urine production in children
- Loss of consciousness
- Nausea, vomiting and /or diarrhea - if severe or with multiple episodes
- Pain accompanied by loss of function in any extremity
- Poisoning – if possible, call poison control for treatment advice
- Severe allergic reactions
- Severe asthma attacks
- Severe Back Pain - especially if it involves loss of consciousness, extremity function or bladder function
- Severe or sharp abdominal pain
- Shortness of breath or trouble breathing while at rest
- Stroke Symptoms:
- facial dropping
- paralysis or numbness of any extremity
- sleepiness and/or disorientation and confusion
- slurred speech
- Worst headache ever experienced
